Transparency is critical in a democracy. Our Town owes it to all COWs to make information easily available. So why is the Town still audio taping meetings? Who has a tape player anymore? Recordings should at least be on CDs. Even that is rapidly becoming obsolete. The audios of meetings should be archived on line so that they are available without having to request them or pay for them.
Actually, of course, the Town should provide videos as most of our neighboring communities do. As most of our readers know we provide videos of the COWncil meetings on MooTube because the Town does not provide videos. We depend on donations from COWs to provide this service which our Town should provide. Way back in 2007, we offered to donate the money to set up a video system. We brought a check into Town Hall but it was turned away. See our past stories on this and the need for video here, here and here.
If the Town were to do the video, it would be tied to the microphone system and the audio would be much better than ours can be. COWS who are unfamiliar with our site could access the videos. All Board and COWmittee meetings could be available on line.
Most other cities provide meeting videos including; San Mateo, Belmont, Palo Alto, San Carlos, Menlo Park, Atherton, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Redwood City and San Mateo County. This leaves Woodside together with Portola Valley in the dark ages. Imagine here in the heart of Silicon Valley, Woodside continues to use obsolete technology from the 1990’s.
