Have you visited the excellent Fire Department website recently? Following the Los Angeles fires and heightened danger alerts in the Oakland hills, we are glad to have a proactive fire department. The website gives all kinds of good advice on reducing the risk of fire on your property. They participate in a San Mateo County alarm system and statewide mutual aid system so they can bring more resources to bear if need be.
The fire department offers CPR and First Aid training and certification classes, Emergency Response Programs and home inspections. Coming up on October 22nd and November 19th_ they are offering adult CPR classes. Please call ahead to see if there is room 851- 1594. Looks like they will discuss Communicable Disease, the Good Samaritan Law, Heart & Lung Function, Signals of Heart Attack-Action for Survival and teach Adult CPR, Pediatric CPR, Infant CPR, Foreign Body Airway Obstruction and Automatic External Defibrillation.
We have found our Fire Marshal to be very responsive and helpful in reviewing plans and designing solutions to fire issues and the entire department from office staff, firefighters and command to be helpful, courteous and kind. We really can’t moo enough about them all. Even their garden should win a grand prize!
NO BULL: The earthquake in Pakistan also reminds us that we need to be prepared. Last week we linked to the Fire Department website, but here are some useful links that we found.
There is a good article at: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2005/09/24/HOG1EERGGF1.DTL
Here’s a great site from another fire department: http://www.lafd.org/eqindex.htm which includes a super list.
