May Day has come around again and Woodside’s 89th annual May Day Parade and other fun events will take place as always on the first Saturday in May, which this year is Saturday, May 7th.
The annual Town party celebrates the beginning of Spring with a fun run, a pancake breakfast, the parade, as well as the coveted Citizen of the Year award and a Maypole Dance.
COWs who want to hoof it in the 20th Annual Fun Run can find out more information at the Woodside Rec website (including last year’s winners), and find the registration form here. This year’s sponsors include Buck’s, the Village Doctor, Wellness Studio, as well as COWncilman Dave Tanner.
Registration in front of the library (3140 Woodside Road) begins at 7:30 am Saturday morning, and the race itself gets started at 8:30. The 2+ mile run (or walk if you prefer) takes participants through Woodside and there are refreshments for registered participants. The top runners from each age group receive a medal, and children all receive a participation ribbon. Afterwards – or instead of — running, enjoy the annual pancake breakfast at the Woodside Village Church hosted by the Rotary Club that will be held from 8 to 10 am.
The annual May Day parade will start at 10 am at Woodside Road at Albion Avenue and proceeds to Woodside and Canada Roads and back. As in years past moo-embers of the Town COWncil and other Citizens will show their Town pride. The parade also has animals, horse and riders, classic cars, and live music.
After that moo-velous stampede is finished, elementary school students will perform a traditional Maypole dance at the elementary school before the announcement of the Citizen of the Year, and then folks get to enjoy the barbecue and games that will continue through the afternoon.
This event is a good opportunity for COWs to mingle with their neighbors. Events of this kind knit our Town together into a cow-munity, so we encourage everyone to make time to mix, moo, and mingle with friends old and new at the Parade and carnival this Saturday!
