Hooves-Ray for Woodside School!

November 30, 2012

Congratulations to Woodside School which received a prestigious National Blue Ribbon Award this year at a ceremony in Washington D.C. a few days ago. The award recognizes public and private elementary, middle and high schools where students perform at very high levels or where significant improvements are being made in students’ levels of academic achievement. Woodside School is one of 27 schools receiving this award from the state of California.

Public schools are nominated by a Chief State School Officer. The Council of Chief State School Officers is a nonpartisan, nationwide, nonprofit organization of public officials who head departments of elementary and secondary education in the states, the District of Columbia, the Department of Defense Education Activity, and five U.S. extra-state jurisdictions.

Woodside is an “Exemplary High-Performing” school defined as the achievement of the school’s students in the most recent year tested among the highest performing schools in the state.

Woodside School has an excellent academic program achieving an enviable very strong Academic Performance Index score of 963 but also with enrichment activities such as with an annual Woodside Science Fair and recently a History Day. Traditionally it works closely with the Town of Woodside, the Woodside Town Library, the Woodside Fire Station and the Woodside Church to provide educational opportunities for its students. Its May Day Celebration with May pole dance by our third graders is a COWmunity highlight. Students participate in community service projects at neighboring, underserved schools as well as in places as far away as Africa. Special kudos go to the dedicated teachers. We also acknowledge with thanks that the PTA and the parents for their active participation and the general COWmunity for its support for the school. The school foundation raises approximately 25% of the annual budget through fundraising events.

We are very proud of all of our Schools and cowngratulate Woodside School on this achievement.
