COW’S can enjoy wine tasting at some wonderful spots right in our own back 40 this weekend! Santa Cruz Mountains Winegrowers Association’s Passport Day this Saturday, January 15th, and three local wineries are among those participating. Some passport wineries are not ordinarily open to the public. Some pour special wines or barrel samples on these days. Passports require a $40 donation.
Thomas Fogarty Winery & Vineyards is a definite must. At the beautiful mountain top location, you can enjoy world class wines with world class views. The winery, vineyard and tasting room is located at 19501 Skyline Blvd. in Woodside. This tasting room is open every Wednesday thru Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Cinnabar Winery is also on the tour. The tasting room “The Mudd Room” is named after Cinnabar’s founder who was one of Woodside’s own, Tom Mudd. It is located at 14612 Big Basin Way #A, Saratoga. The Mudd Room is regularly open for tasting, weekdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Family operated La Honda Winery has a surprising location. The tasting room is inside a warehouse between a residential neighborhood and an old industrial area. You will however be pleasantly surprised once inside. It’s a biggity place with highfalutin ceilings, fireplace, beautiful floors and tasting bar. After this Passport Day, the next event at La Honda Winery is “Bottle Your Own”. On February 19th. Bring your own clean, empty wine bottles and fill them directly from the tank! La Honda Winery is located at 2645 Fair Oaks Ave. in Redwood City.
There are other Passport Days throughout the year and the Passport is good at all of them, one visit per winery. For a list of all other wineries on the passport, go here.
This is a great opportunity to bend an elbow with fellow COW’S and other fine folks. Hope to see ya all there!
