Don’t miss the annual Autumn at Filoli Festival from 10 am to 3:30 pm this Saturday, October 1st. COWs can celebrate the harvest with fruit tasting and family entertainment at the festival. Sampling heritage fruit from Filoli’s Gentlemen’s Orchard, including one of a kind apples, grapes and pears is one of the highlights. Docent-led tours of this wonderful 6.8 acre orchard. Established in 1919, it was not intended to produce large quantities of fruit but instead was to have a variety of heritage fruit. The orchard now boasts 670 trees and vines of heirloom fruit and is one of the world’s largest privately owned collections of heritage fruit.
There are supervised activities for the young-uns in the Family Fun Land area, including games and other activities including face painting, operating the cider press, crafting an apple scarecrow and a trip to the pumpkin patch to find their own pumpkin. A Strolling Pumpkin will be around with treats and the Happy Birds Performing Parrot Show, a magic performing clown and one with balloons as well as a puppet show and hand-crafted scarecrows, complete the experience.
The Filoli Garden Shop will be open throughout the day and will include special guest vendors showcasing their edibles and artists creations.
Filoli’s Nature Educations Docents will lead hikes through the natural areas of the property and demonstrate and share what they know of the plants and animals. Additionally answers to questions about the magnificent Filoli gardens and plants will be given by the on hand Garden Information Docents.
Reservations are a must.
