April 4, 2019

Spring is finally here and it is a great time to enjoy the outdoors. We have so many wonderful areas to explore around our cowmunity and one hidden treasure is Edgewood Park.

Enjoy a free docent led Wildflower Walk through Edgewood County Park! This winter’s ample rain has provided one of the best wildflower seasons we have seen in a long time. Docents from Friends of Edgewood guide the wildflower walks. These walks are offered on every Saturday and Sunday through June 2nd. It is a moderate three-mile walk which begins at 10:00 and lasts until approximately 1:00. People meet at the Bill and Jean Lane Education Center near the park entrance off Edgewood Road. This month, additional walks are also offered on Saturdays at 10:00 from the Clarkia Trailhead. For those, meet at the parking area on Canada Road.

There are nature trails and picnic areas if you want to just relax or explore on your own. Also, you can become an Edgewood Weed Warrior. They operate under a permit issued to the California Native Plant Society. They meet regularly to remove invasive plants at Edgewood. This activity supports greater biodiversity, natural habitats, and exceptional wildflower displays. They have a weeding session on a regular basis and welcome volunteers. Check them out here.

While you are there visit the Bill and Jean Lane Education Center located near the main entrance and see their interactive exhibits that explain Edgewood’s connection to the surrounding landscape and its history.
