This November will be a COWncil election for the odd numbered district seats. The term of office is for four years. There are no term limits. Traditionally, incumbents run again and again unopposed. We do not know if there will be any vacancy but whether or not the incumbents run, we would like to see contested elections and discussion of the issues.
The seat up for election are Ron Romines (District 1). Thomas P. Shanahan (District 3), David Burow, (District 5), Peter Mason (District 7). While elections are “at large”, candidates filing nominations papers must live in one of these districts and will oppose other candidates from only that district. .
The first date and time for the distribution of nomination papers is Monday, July 13, 2015, and the last date and time to file nomination papers will be August 7, 2015 by 5:00 p.m.. If an incumbent officer whose term of office is expiring, has not filed the time is extended for that district until 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 12, 2015. The papers include the signatures of not less than twenty nor more than thirty registered voters of Woodside. If you might be interested get more information here.
Because the members of the COWNcil have not faced opposition, we really do not know their policy positions other than by inferring them from their actions. Here are a few things we would like to know:
• What ideas do you have for making the planning and building process made quicker and more fair?
• What criteria should be used in making land use decisions?
• What do you intend to do regarding Citizens concerns about the ASRB and its process?
• What is your opinion on why the Town has not implemented video recordings of all council, commission and committee meetings as other cities and towns are doing? At what point would you encourage this happen?
