Woodside will be cele-BULL-brating its 86th May Day parade and festivities this Saturday, May 3rd from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The annual parade, carnival and Fun Run brings together the whole COWmunity in the spring sunshine. Check out the details below!
In the morning, you can choose between pancakes with the Rotary Club or you can stagger over to the May Day Fun Run. The run (and walk!) route is about two miles long, starting at Woodside Road. You can register using this form over at Woodside Park and Recreation and check out some more details and pictures of previous runs here . There is a fee, but runners get snacks and a complimentary t-shirt, and trophies and medals will be awarded to top finishers. As the Almanac points out the trophies are sponsored by four local businesses, including COWncilmember Tanner’s construction company and Buck’s – we salute them giving back to the COWmunity.
We certainly hope that means that COWncilmember Tanner will be able to come to and convince the other COWncilmembers come to the annual parade after the Fun Run. As you can see over on Mootube, there was some resistance from some members of the COWncil to showing up – Dave Burow especially seemed a little reluctant. He is the newest member of the COWncil, – Mayor Romines jokingly attempted to cajole him to show up and press the flesh. Since so few people generally show up to COWncil meetings, this is an excellent opportunity for the average Woodsider to actually see their COWncil persons in person. We hope Dave and the rest of the COWncil can make it!
The parade starts at 10 from Woodside School with the Mounted Patrol acting as Color Guard. With this and the Fun Run, drivers should expect and plan for road closures. The parade travels out to Cañada Road and back, arriving back at the school after 11. Students at the school then perform the May Pole dance. Woodside’s Citizen of the Year award is always announced afterwards and then the school hosts a barbecue and carnival. We hope to see you all there.
